Have you ever felt anxious, worried, or stressed out? Who hasn’t? In fact, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting 40 million adults. Twice as many women as men tend to develop actual anxiety disorders, which are characterized by excessive worry, fear, dread, avoidance of places or situations, panic attacks, repetitive behaviors, or compulsive hygiene rituals.
Anxiety is part of the body’s “fight or flight” response, which is a good thing because it prepares us to act quickly in the face of danger. However, when you are gripped by worry, fear, and negative thoughts, it is time to take back your life and find the joy again.
Researcher Aaron Beck, MD, found that negative thought patterns create a cycle that leads to self-defeating behaviors. If they are not addressed, these behaviors result in feelings of anxiety and low self-esteem.

For many philosophers, anxiety is seen as part of the human condition because it arises from recognizing that we have both limitations and freedom. We have a limited time to live, but we have the freedom to choose how we live.
According to Viktor Frankl, author of Man’s Search for Meaning, when we are faced with our mortality, our deepest human wish is to find meaning in our life. If life is short, if life is an ordinary occurrence but an extraordinary gift, then searching for and creating our own meaning and joy in life is our most important endeavor.
